National Kahlua Day is celebrated on February 27 of every year. Kahlua is a creamy, rich, coffee flavoured and rum-based alcoholic liquor.  In the Nahuatl language, the meaning of the term ‘Kahlua’ is ‘house of the Acolhua people’. This cocktail is originated from Mexico, and initially, it is known by people only in the surrounding areas of Mexico, But now Kahlua is famous across the globe, and millions around the world enjoy it.

Someone is putting brandy in your bonbons, Grand Marnier in your breakfast jam, Kahlua in your ice cream, Scotch in your mustard and Wild Turkey in your cake” – Marian Burros quotes.

History of National Kahlua Day

The origin and history of National Kahlua Day are still unknown. Pedro Domecq produced Kahlua in the year 1936. Then the company combined with Allied Lyons in the year 1994 forming Allied Domecq. In the year 2005, Allied Domecq was partly obtained by Pernod Ricard which merged with the Swedish Vin & Spirit, i.e. V & S Group in March 2008. Kahlua is made with rum, sugar, vanilla, corn syrup and Mexican coffee. As it is made from coffee and rum, it contains caffeine. People enjoy having Kahlua either straight up or on the rocks. Kahlua can also be mixed with desserts like ice cream, cheesecakes, and cakes; it can also be combined with coffee and other cocktails like the B-52, Mudslide, White Russian etc.
